Our Churches teach that people cannot be justified before God by their own strength, merits, or works. People are freely justified for Christ's sake, through faith, when they believe that they are received into favor and that their sins are forgiven for Christ's sake. By His death, Christ made satisfaction for our sins. God counts this faith for righteousness in His sight. Article IV - Augsburg Confession

May we remember this all the days of our life!
I believe that God has made me and all creatures; that He has given me my body and soul, eyes, ears, and all my members, my reason and all my senses, and still takes care of them.
He also gives me clothing and shoes, food and drink, house and home, wife and children, land, animals, and all that I have. He richly and daily provides me with all that I need to support this body and life.
He defends me against all danger and guards and protects me from all evil.
All this He does out of fatherly, diving goodness and mercy, without any merit or worthiness in me. For all this it is my duty to thank and praise, serve and obey him.
This is most certainly true.
(Martin Luther's Explanation)

I had an interesting question at Bible study last week that has me thinking. What is the difference between praise and thanksgiving?
This is the week of Thanksgiving. Is it a week of praise as well? Can we separate the two?
As I explore this, I'd appreciate your thoughts on this topic.

First Trace of Snow of the Snow Season Falls in La Crosse, WI and Rochester, MN
I guess it's official. It has snowed in La Crescent for the first time this year.
Come now, "let us reason together, says the LORD: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow..." Isaiah 1:18 ESV

Today, the city of La Crescent experienced a train derailment. Fortunately, no one was hurt and the train wasn't carrying any hazardous materials.
I was interviewed today for one of our local TV channels. Here's the feed. Of course, they did spell my name wrong.
