Flood Post 1: When we have FEMA do we need GOD?

I am amazed at our dependence on the government for everything! As a firefighter, I'm right in the middle of our "state of emergency" in Southeastern Minnesota. While I am seeing a great deal of goodness in people, I am also hearing some stories. "When is the government going to help? Why didn't someone warn us about this?" There were many more.

My favorite complaint was this... "Why did the owner of the court come and evacuate us? It should have been the Police Chief." Does it matter who helps us? Does it have to be a government official that says, "The water is coming. Get out now!"?

Thankfully, I am also hearing how God was present in our situation. With all the destruction presently surrounding us, the loss of life could have been much worse! My department almost, and really should have, lost 3 firefighters and 1 police officer in a rescue attempt. But God was present. A miracle occurred. Here is more info on that.

This is what we need:
1. We need more personal responsibility. We don't need to wait for the government to tell us when to leave or wait to rebuild until their help arrives. We have become too dependent on government.
2. We need to stop and see God's hand at work. He was present in this flood. He's present today. He'll be present the rest of our days!

Pray for all involved in the flood efforts!
